Diamond Technology

http://www.hotspring.com/sites/all/themes/hotspring/images/pages/ace/diamond-technology.png
The ACE® system contains a special diamond electrode that automatically creates five different powerful and effective cleaners for your hot tub from just a small amount of salt and your spa's water. When the diamond electrode is energized, it breaks apart water molecules to create active oxygen. Active oxygen is one of the world's most effective natural cleaners and is the first way the ACE system automatically cleans the water. The active oxygen then combines with salt and other elements in the water to create chlorine and three other powerful oxidizers.

Diabetes Benefits of Hot Tubs

Hot Tub Diabetes Benefits

For the more than 23.6 million people who have diabetes (Type 1 or 2), help may be as close as the nearest hot tub. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine indicates that soaking in a hot tub can be beneficial for people affected by Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and sheds light on the advantages of spa ownership.

With this type of diabetes, people can often control their condition with regular exercise and a good diet. Unfortunately, some diabetics are physically unable to endure rigorous activity and maintain a steady weight. Soaking in a hot tub may contribute to:
  • An increase in overall sense of well being
  • Improved sleep
For more information regarding diabetes, visit the American Diabetes Association website at www.diabetes.org.

Sleep Benefits of Hot Tubs

Sleep researchers believe that many cases of insomnia can be traced to hectic, stressful lifestyles. The results of sleep deprivation are varied and may cause battered nerves, grogginess, lapses in memory, depression, and erratic mood swings. Soaking in a hot tub prior to going to bed can help allow for important stress relief and relaxation, leading to a deep and more peaceful sleep.
According to a study in the scientific journal Sleep, a drop in body temperature can help to ease the body into a relaxing and sound sleep.
  • Therefore it is suggested to take a 15-minute soak in a hot bath or hot tub (103F degrees) approximately 90 minutes before bedtime. This causes the body's internal thermostat to pull the body’s temperature down, enabling sleep to set in with ease.
  • Spa-induced relaxation and sleep is a natural remedy, unlike alternative sleeping aids such as prescription drugs, over-the-counter remedies and alcohol, which can make a person feel groggy and have other adverse side effects.

Hot Tub Sleep Benefits

The National Sleep Foundation conducted a poll and found that approximately 132 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders including mild to chronic insomnia, pauses in breathing and snoring.
  • The poll found that 48 percent of women and 38 percent of men suffer from insomnia more than one night a week. This number is on the rise as evidenced by the growing number of sleep disorder centers across the nation (approximately 3,000 in the U.S. today).
  • According to a sleep therapy center in Louisville, Ky., insomnia is the second most prevalent reason people go to the doctor (after pain).

Besides providing a relaxing hydrotherapy experience, hot tubs and portable spas provide many health benefits, especially for people suffering from arthritis, diabetes, and sleep deprivation. Frequently Asked Jet and Horse Power Ratings Questions

I hear a lot about horsepower ratings of the pumps. How important is that? Many companies boast of their “high” horsepower rated pumps. The truth is that the higher the number of jets, the more horsepoer you need to power those jets. What you really want is high pressure (adjustable) at the jet nossle. (see HP ratings?)
Should I be concerned with the number of jets found in a spa?The number of jets in a spa is NOT nearly as important as the variety of jets found in the spa. That coupled with the placement of those jets provides maximum benefit.

How are pumps rated – horsepower?Beware of horsepower ratings in pumps. Many compianies rate their pumps using “Breakdown Torque” which inflates the rating. This occurs only for a fraction of a second when the pump is turned on. “Continuous Duty” is the true HP rating.

Frequently Asked Insulation Questions

What is the difference between fully insulated and fully foam filled spas.

A spa could have a little as 1/6 inch of insulation on the entire shell and be fully insulated. A fully foam filled spa is filled from the outside “skin” to the inside shell with foam insulation

Frequently asked Energy Questions

Can I run my spa on a 110V current or do I need 220V?

Depends largely on the brand and model of spa. The major difference is that with a 110V system, the heater and the jets will NOT run at the same time. If your spa is will insulated and uses “warm-air induction”, that should not be a problem.

How Much will my Spa cost to operate?

Spas will range in the area of $12-$100 a month to operate. This depends largely on the brand of spa, the size, the frequency of use and the weather and cost of electricty in your area. Beware of fully insulated spas versus fully foam filled.

I hear that a spa wired for 220V is more energy efficient than a 110V system. Any truth to that?

You buy energy by the KW (killowatt) which heats water at a specific rate regardless of 110V or 220V. A 220V system will heat faster but will NOT be more efficient! To learn more see 110V vs 220V

Far-Infrared Sauna

Finnleo's Ultra Low EMR/Low EF Infrared Saunas
REDEFINING THE STANDARDS FOR INFRARED SAUNAS
Pure Infra™
Far-infrared saunas radiate a deep, penetrating heat that melts cares away at the end of a stressful day. If you like to work out, an infrared session before your exercise warms up muscles and increases flexibility, helping to avoid injury.  Use after a work out for gentle soothing of sore muscles.  And with minimal waiting time for pre-heating—when you’re ready to relax and re-energize, your Finnleo far-Infrared is ready as well.
WARM UP TO NEW BREAKTHROUGH TECHNOLOGY
Infrared saunas radiate EMR and EF radiation.  Though not harmful in the low doses used in Infrared saunas we have spent the last 4 years developing a new and break¬through technology that nearly eliminates this radiation while still maintaining the positive effects of infrared sauna.  We call it Pure InfraTM (patents pending) and this new technology is exclusive to Finnleo. It’s the only infrared sauna technology that exceeds the tough Swedish radiation standards.
Finnleo’s wall-to-wall flat panel carbon-fiber CarbonFlex® IR heating system literally "wraps” you evenly in gentle heat, avoiding uncomfortable temperature fluctuations found in other IR systems. All Finnleo models can be simply plugged into a 120 volt household outlet. Select one of three lighting systems depending upon the mood: reading lights, color-light therapy, or the soft ambience of valance lighting. Your preferred comfort settings for heat, sound and light are easily managed from the TouchScreen
control.

Good Health Using a Hot Tub

A Prescription for Good Health: Slip into your spa and say “Aaah”

Discover what ancient cultures knew millennia ago – immersion in hot water can be good for your body, mind and spirit. Besides providing a relaxing hydromassage experience, a long, soothing soak in your Hot Spring spa could be just what the doctor ordered. A body of well-documented research suggests that hot water immersion can lower your blood pressure, increase blood circulation, loosen tight muscles and release endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers. Here are just a few benefits you may experience from hot tub hydromassage therapy:
  • A natural remedy for insomnia
  • Increased joint mobility, flexibility and range of motion
  • Reduction in joint stiffness and swelling
  • Decreased anxiety
  • Better, more rejuvenating sleep
  • Arthritis pain relief*
*The use of hot water or heat is recommended for many people with arthritis but not all. Consult with your physician first.

The Hydromassage Experience

There are three factors at work in a spa: heat, buoyancy and massage. Together, they create a relaxing, soothing hydromassage experience.

Immersion in a hot tub raises the body temperature and causes the blood vessels to dilate, increasing circulation. The buoyancy of the spa water reduces body weight by approximately 90%, which relieves pressure on joints and muscles and creates the relaxing sensation of weightlessness.

The massaging action of a spa is created by sending a mixture of warm water and air through hydromassage jet nozzles. This "energized" stream of water loosens tight muscles and stimulates the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain killers.

Arthritis Benefits of Hot Tubs

Hot Tub Arthritis Benefits

An estimated 50 million Americans are affected by some form of arthritis. Although there are more than 100 different kinds of arthritis, most are characterized by inflammation of the joints which causes swelling, pain and stiffness, often resulting in loss of joint movement or function.

Many people affected by arthritis seek relief by soaking in the warm, soothing water of a hot tub. A hot tub can provide the warmth, massage and buoyancy needed to both relax and exercise joints and muscles in the convenience and comfort of a backyard.

Watkins Manufacturing Earns First European ENVY Award For Energy-Efficient Hot Spring Spa

March 24, 2008—Watkins Manufacturing has received the first-ever European ENVY Award for its outstanding efforts in environment-friendly hot tub design.

Vista-based Watkins, maker of Hot Spring® Spas—the world's number one-selling brand—provided a Sovereign® spa for testing in realistic outside conditions by the INDESIGN Institute for Innovative Design, a research-and-development institute near Munich, Germany. The Sovereign spa was installed at a demonstration home operated by INDESIGN partner DemoDomo. DemoDomo serves as a platform to demonstrate, test and develop innovative and energy-efficient products.

Watkins Manufacturing President Steve
Hammock, left, and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Beerschwinger

From December 2007 to February 2008, INDESIGN tested the Sovereign spa continuously for energy efficiency in cycles of 72 consecutive hours. The spa was found to be well within the maximum standby energy consumption set by the California Energy Commission.

Its name an acronym for "environment friendly," the ENVY Award recognizes Watkins Manufacturing for:
  • Creating trendsetting, energy-smart spas
  • Using energy-efficient spa components
  • Participating in frequent product testing carried out by independent third parties
  • Assuring that all spa owners and prospective buyers have access to valid energy-performance documentation
  • Supporting international R&D to further develop green initiatives and increase energy efficiency
"Hot Spring Spas decided to actively join this project as a primary cooperating partner because company management is open to new ideas and suggestions," said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Beerschwinger, founder and director of INDESIGN.

"They take energy efficiency very seriously in the manufacturing process and consumer use of their spas. Our exhaustive investigation of spa efficiencies reported in several tests has proven Hot Spring is a leader in energy efficiency." Steve Hammock, President of Watkins Manufacturing, accepted the award from Beerschwinger on March 19 at company headquarters in Vista, Calif.

"We're honored to be the first recipient of this impressive award," Hammock said. "It is an affirmation of our commitment to energy conservation and building 'green' spas."
